A cofferdam is a watertight enclosure built within a body of water to allow the enclosed area to be pumped out, creating a dry working area.

Cofferdams are generally utilized in construction dewatering, flood protection, and temporary water storage. These systems are used in projects like boat ramp construction, docks, bridges and dams, canals and culverts, dredging, pipeline construction, shoreline restoration, and hazardous spill containment.

Belton Industries, Inc. manufactures high-strength woven polypropylene fabrics used to manufacture portable, reusable, water-inflated cofferdams. The inflatable water dams are flexible in design, which allows for a customized layout. The installation is quick and more cost-effective than using common steel and wooden structures. For environmentally sensitive projects, the portable, water-inflated cofferdams offer reduced site disturbance.
